We can make a difference by coming together in compassionate prayer …..A powerful earth quake has shaken southern Taiwan, causing residents to flee shaking buildings, triggering power blackouts and halting high-speed train services on the island.
At least eight people so far have been reported as injured but no major damage was reported from the 6.4-magnitude quake, which the US Geological Survey (USGS) said struck about 70 kilometres from the island’s second-largest city Kaohsiung.
It was felt as far away as Taipei,which is the capital of Taiwan and is several hundred kilometres north of the source of the quake.Its epicentre was in
inhabited mountainous area in Jiahsian township in Kaohsiung county, which is still recovering from a massive typhoon that triggered floods and mudslides in August, killing about 700 people.
Three resulting landslides have been reported in the area and so far 6 aftershocks have been reported.
Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and is regularly hit by earthquakes.
In September 1999, a big 7.6-magnitude quake killed about 2,400 people in the worst natural disaster in the island’s history.

@dannyalmazan: Earthquakes are not the work of “god”, and if they were, would be the work of a twisted, sadistic dieity indeed. No amount of praying can save one from a natural disaster. If it could, thousands of people who lost their lives in Chile or Haiti would still be alive, or does “god” play favourites?
I agree with adundantgarden when he says our huge mistake was to build cities on fault lines and can only hope that the casualities of this new tectonic activity will be minimal.

No, not every month….Vanuatu just had one….6.4….. I think the Earth is expanding. No proof of this but you can see what looks like the stretch marks
on the google maps in the oceans. It appears to be stepping up. Mainly in the pacific region. I think this may be the “thinest ” region of the planet. As Earth spins it puts pressure on the outer crust. ( bit like the amusement park rides, ) the Earth is spinning, the crust is thinning , it expands at its thinnest point. Just thoughts…

I’m not a professional at this but to me it appears the the Earth is expanding. The place inside the pacific rim appears to be expanding more rapidly at this point in time. Vanuatu has just experienced a 6.4. I believe there will be another one soon in this area, maybe more south. I’m not sure. Living on these particular “fault lines” at this point in time will need much closer monoriting . It is inevitable there will be more.
