A trip to see the sky lanterns in Pingxi — truly a unique Taiwan experience.
The music is from a Heavenly Melody album: “Suzanne plays Heavenly Melody” favorites on Erhu (the Chinese erhu is that 2-stringed, violin-like instrument you are hearing) The title of the song is 平安夜裡真平安 (Silent Night, Peaceful Night).

2009.12.19, 9:02 PM magnitude 6.8 Earthquake in Hualien, Taiwan

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2010 and filed under taiwan earthquake | 7 Comments »

During the December 19, 2009 edition of “New Taiwan Go, Go, Go!” (新台灣加油) an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 hit Hualien, Taiwan. I was out the door before I saw anything happen on the TV, and when I came back inside, I edited this clip to upload.

Watch the host Lu Huei-min (呂惠敏). She seems a bit nervous, but she carries on professionally, telling viewers to turn off the gas and get to a safe location. After the shaking stops, Tainan City Councilor Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) begins an analogy about how everybody’s reaction will be different, just like their reactions to a quake might be.

Description: Night markets in Taiwan are not just places to buy things to eat and drink and wear. They are also an essential part of nightlife for many Taiwanese people. Vendors selling popular snacks gather in the streets and jam into the alleys of the night markets, selling delicious food at good prices as part of the unforgettable experience of the night market. Today the night market has gradually come to serve as sort of a “mini-carnival” in the daily lives of the people of Taiwan. Let’s go to the Raohe Street Night Market now to have some Taiwanese food and have fun!
