For Hotel: you did not mention budget. You can stay in any Hotel as the MRT system is good and can get you close to most NMs in Taipei city.

Getting There:
◎MRT Danshui Line: 5-8 minute walking distance from Exit 2 at the MRT Chientan Station
◎By Bus
Arrive at Chientan stop via bus route no. 203, 218, 220, 260, 267, 277, 280, 285, 279, 308, 310, 606, 612, 646, 665, 685, 902 and Red 3.

It is within 5 to 10 minutes walk to Shilin Night market and MRT Station is nearby. Arrive at Chientan Elementary School stop via bus route no. 41, 250, 266, 280, 288, 290, 303, 529, 616 and 618.

If you are going to Science Museum, you can take 41 from Chientan Elementary School and alight at Shishang Rd. The bus can also takes you to Shilin Night Market nearby at Yangming Theater.

If this is your first trip to Taipei, Snake Alley is considered a must see. There is really good food in the hawker area one block farther along.

You don’t need a hotel close to there, because the Long Shan Temple subway stop is very close.

Long Shan Temple is a must-see, while you’re at it.

Actually Shilin is one of the night markets in Taipei, but it really is the most known one. I found this web site introducing information of Taiwan’s night markets http://tourguide.sinotour.com/nightmarket
The section “north Taiwan” shown 7 night markets, and also some recommended hotels on it.

The Grand Hotel http://grand-hotel.sinotour.com/ or Yo Chun Regency http://youspring.sinotour.com/ are good choices for their location, or you can stay at other hotels they recommend, depends on your travel plan, it is easy to reach Shilin night market by metro.
