This one is pretty good:
China = big strong guy
Taiwan= little pretty girl
1400 missiles= gun
big strong guy points the gun at little girl’s head and says "marry me or die".
or come up with your own
I prefer your analogy over most. Except, you omitted one thing….
The little girl is the strong guy’s older half-sister.
EDIT: I like Matt’s detailed analogy. As for S.T.’s, nobody said "pretty little girl" so I don’t know where you got that, except maybe from the same imagination you have that says Taiwan is part of China. And, how about comparing Taiwan’s DEFENSIVE military budget against China’s OFFENSIVE military budget? Who’s the aggressor nation here?

Taiwan is the rebellious teenage child of China. China and Taiwan love each other deep down inside. I have 25 cats living with me in my London apartment. I love them too, but their litter box is frightful.

All above except the last one are wrong, since Taiwan (ROC) is basically older then China (PRC).
I would say it’s a relationship of two brothers. One has seen good, rich days for a long time and his younger one, stronger and bigger, had been very jealous of him for many years. Now the younger is seeing some good days too and is trying to pretend he is the one in the family who should be admired or else…

UN = High School filled with junkies.
China= Rich bully who everyone pretends to like so they can get easy access to their chronic blunts. Currently funding his education using drugs, guns and hookers.
Taiwan=Nerdy, somewhat chastened former dealer who has grown up and went to college and is trying to work as an engineer in a clean happy life after serving a light sentence, but is not exactly innocent like they imagine. Still suffering from the side effects of the fast life and attempting to atone for past crimes, but still not quite credible to the mainstream after having made the mistake of getting caught. The unforgiven former dealer to those who refuse to admit their own problems.
China runs the school… for now.
Until everyone a) grows up or b) a new dealer comes in.
Currently China is attempting to point the gun at Taiwan to shake it down and get protection money from the upstanding citizen who has a grey past. The rest of the school looks on and hypocritically clucks ‘tsk tsk’ and does nothing, not realizing that soon they will be shaken down for protection money too.

I think your analogy will work well with children who have no understanding of politics. You may want to add the fact that the "little pretty girl" spends billions of dollars of her own on military hardware each year instead of make up. Perhaps the "little pretty girl" doesn’t know why she has to occupy Jinmen or Matsu either…
China = a large nation that is recognized as the only China, and whose leaders include Taiwan as part of it.
Taiwan = a small island that is largely unrecognized as an independent nation for good reasons, and which once claimed to be the legitimate ruler of the large nation known as China, and now claims not to be. Is the "little pretty girl" still confused why she is neither pretty nor single?

China and Taiwan are brothers.
China big brother
Taiwan little brother
They need to work together to do great things.
