I want to live in Taiwan and also be a computer tech.
What are some good colleges that i should consider and is Taiwan in demand for English speaking computer technicians.
Also how much Taiwan Dollars do they make a month? any info appreciated.
If you wish to pursue this career in Taiwan, you would also need Mandarin Chinese skills. Even with that, it’s very hard to find such work here, as most jobs would go to Taiwanese who are native-born Chinese speakers and have had 6+ years of daily education classes in English. I won’t say it’s impossible to secure work, but the odds are far against you doing so.

US-China faceoff over Taiwan arms deal
US and China havent been on great terms as of late because the Americans are sending $6.3 billion worth of arms to Taiwan – the Americans are trying to provoke China into helping them impose sanctioning Iran to try to halt Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. China got really upset at the arms sale and threatened sanctions against US companies supplying the arms, suspended key military-to-military contacts, and warned Obama that his planned meeting with the Dalai Lama will further damage U.S.-China relations.

I am considering moving to Taiwan to teach. Does anyone know how to deposit money made in Taiwan?
I want to be able to deposit earnings in Taiwan into an account and them to enter my account in the U.S.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have been doing exactly what you have been talking about, the basics are you need to find a bank in the US that will accept international money transfers and then it is simply having your bank in Taiwan to transfer how ever much you want monthly into your account in the US. It takes some time and a lot of work to get things working properly but it is do able. I have 2 accounts here on is with ChinaTrust bank and the other is Bank of Taiwan, China Trust charges a 800NT (24 usd) fee I can’t remember what BOT charges. My old US bank charged me 5 dollars for every deposit and 10 to transfer money back.
>edit: You might be able to find other ways by searching around on a very helpful forum for westerners,… here is a direct link to information about this topic

How much to send a standard letter from Taiwan internationally?
I’m on a vacation in Taiwan and I know that sending a letter to the US is 15 NTS. My question is is that the same flat rate to ANY country in the world? Or is it just to USA only?
The rates change depending on the different countries, because of distance and such things.
Here is the Taiwan Chunghwa Postal Service website (in English) for international Letter-Post Items
http://www.post.gov.tw/post/internet/u_english/postal_f_5.jsp
You can also check for International EMS & International Parcel Post on this site too.
Hope this helps~

How does the pollution situation in Taiwan today compare to how it was in the 1980s?
I visited Taiwan twice in the late 1980s and was really shocked by what I saw there. I didn’t know any place on earth was that badly polluted. You could hardly breath without chocking. All the lakes and rivers were cesspools. There were literally swarms of deformed and crippled beggars all over the city of Taipei. Seriously, being there was like being in some sort of sci-fi horror movie.
I hear it is better today. I am interested in how much it has changed.
I think a major source of dirt and grime comes from the 15 million plus scooters in Taiwan. In the place i was renting the floor would need to be washed every other day as the grit could be felt on the feet. The windows would get black with dirt and have to be washed often.. and this is now in 2009!…I understand things have improved but Taiwan has a long way to go to reach the standards of a top city,,also the burning of ghost money is not helpful!!

Remember-Size and weight per pc is also important when checking price.
