Powerful Earthquake Hits Taiwan

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit southern parts of Taiwan early on Thursday. 11 people were injured, but no fatalities have been reported. The quake caused minor damage.

The quake set five fires, including one at a textile factory.

“We can see here the major storage tank is right here, so it has little effect. Although the fire hit the laboratory, there was only very little toxic chemicals, so it should not be very serious. So far, from the air we monitored, there are very little toxic particles.”

Falling objects, including a tree, injured people in southern Taiwan.

Rooftops collapsed and school children were evacuated in Kaohsiung and Tainan Counties.

Rail services in the south have been disrupted due to safety checks.

Taiwans Weather Bureau says the epicenter of the quake was in the mountains northeast of Kaohsiung City.

Earthquakes occur frequently in Taiwan, which lies on a seismically active stretch of the Pacific basin.

One of Taiwan’s worst recorded quakes occurred in September 1999. The 7.6 magnitude quake killed more than 2,400 people and damaged 50,000 buildings.

Taiwan Earthquake 6.4 Caught On Camera

A powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 has rocked Taiwan causing widespread damage. Firefighters have been battling a blaze that broke out in a textile factory following the tremor.

Rail services in central and southern Taiwan have now also been suspended. The quake was centered 400 kilometers south of the island’s capital.

No tsunami alert has been issued, and there have been no reports of serious injury.

Sounds like HAARP is hard at work.

It woke me up. My building in Taichung was shaking a bit. I kind of lay there and waited for it to stop. I debated waking up my wife, but nothing was cracking or anything, just a couple glasses ringing together a bit gently. It wasn’t too bad.

I ended up going back to sleep after about 10 mins of staring at the ceiling. It wasn’t the biggest I have felt, its pretty normal to have it once or twice a year. My wife slept through it. The price of living on a giant surfboard.
