Lets say for my grandma, every year she goes to Taiwan to visit her mother. So this is what she does. She uses her Taiwan passport to enter Taiwan so they’ll "know" she still "lives" there so she may be able to have access to Taiwanese medical and almost any other thing for free. But when she comes back to the U.S., she uses her U.S. passport. And then they find out she used another passport and stuff.
Is this legal and will the U.S. do anything if she continues to do it? What would you do if you had dual and had to go back to that country?
If she goes for less than 90 days, she should just use her US passport for travel. She can always use her Taiwanese for medical while shes there with no problem. She’s still Taiwanese.
Also.Have her check with the US passport people because she may be able to get a stamp in her Taiwanese passport showing she is a US citizen.I had a Irish lady friend with this problem and that’s what the Irish did so she could travel on either one..
I am a Filipino currently staying in South Korea and I am planning to go home this December. Since most direct flights are so expensive, I searched for other routes. The cheapest one I found is flying from Korea-Taiwan, then Taiwan-Philippines, on two different airline companies. There’s just a 3-hour gap between flights, so I have no plan of leaving the airport. My question is do I need any kind of visa (transit?) or do I need to pay for some fees for whatever in Taiwan? Thanks in advance.
No, you don’t need a visa since you are not going through the custom to enter Taiwan. You are only changing flights between the gates.
I have this flight at 2:10pm from Suvarnabhumi airport to go to Taipei, Taiwan. I was thinking booking a domestic flight from Krabi to go Don Mueng airport , and it arrives at 1:05pm.
Do you guys think it’s enough time in between? what the distance between Don Mueng airport and Suvarnabhumi airport?
There’s no way you’ll make the flight to Taipei if you arrive at Don Mueang at 1:05, even with little traffic it’s about a 40-45 minute ride to Suvarnabhumi, a distance of about 50 km., and there’s always traffic here. Even if you were to arrive at noon at Don Mueang you would have a hard time making your flight with all the procedures you will have to go through to get on your flight at Suvarnabhumi, not to mention just getting there. You should give yourself at least 2 1/2-3 hours between flights.
I see "Formosa" everywhere in the taiwan airport
& if you’re a person from taiwan,
would you be called formosan?
Long ago, when I was young, it was called Formosa by many Westerners (my 1955 World Book Encyclopedia still lists it as Formosa).
Today, the term Formosa is used as a somewhat romantic or exotic label for the main island of the group of islands controlled by the Republic of China. The name seems to have slighly more appeal to foreign tourists, an industry that is promoted here. That may explain why you see it used in the airport.
